SOO Ceylon Silver Tips White Tea 50g — Ceylon's rarest harvest

What Is Silver Tips White Tea? Ceylon's Rarest Harvest

Ask a Ceylon tea maker to name the finest thing their island produces and many will say the same two words: Silver Tips.

What it is

Silver Tips is a white tea made exclusively from the unopened buds of the tea plant — never the leaves. Each bud is covered in fine silvery down, picked by hand in the cool hours before dawn from highland gardens above 5,000 feet in the Nuwara Eliya region. The buds are simply withered and dried: no rolling, no oxidation, no machinery to speak of. It is tea at its least interfered-with.

Why it's rare

A single 50 g tin of SOO Silver Tips represents roughly 1,500 individually selected buds, harvested in small batches during short seasonal windows. When a batch is gone, the next is months away. That scarcity — not marketing — is why genuine Silver Tips commands the price it does.

What it tastes like

The cup is pale gold, silky in texture, quietly floral, with a natural sweetness that lingers long after the sip. It is a subtle tea that rewards attention — the opposite of a bold breakfast brew.

How to brew it

  • Water at 75–80°C — boiling water scalds the buds.
  • Steep 4–5 minutes.
  • Drink it clear. No milk, no sugar, no lemon — there is nothing to fix.

Silver vs Golden Tips

Its sibling, Golden Tips, is made from golden-hued buds with a warmer honey-and-caramel character — equally rare, differently beautiful. Collectors usually end up with both tins.
